HOMELAND SECURITY POWERS UP IN DALLAS/FORT WORTH

New Alliance works to enhance security and emergency preparedness in North Texas

Richardson, Texas, March 11, 2003 - DFW Homeland Security Alliance, created to address the vulnerabilities in homeland security throughout North Texas, announced its formal launch.

The purpose of the Alliance is to identify solutions and technologies that effectively address security and emergency preparedness required to respond to threats and attacks and to address identified vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure segments. DFW Homeland Security Alliance will work on a local level, and up to the state level, to match solutions with needs, recognizing that solutions may also apply at a national level.

The Alliance is comprised of representatives from the public and private sectors who are experts in emergency services, public health, defense industrial base, energy, postal and shipping, government, banking and finance, information and telecom, and transportation. These referenced areas of expertise have been identified by the Federal Department of Homeland Security as relating to “critical infrastructure” segments.

“Our charter is to assess needs, and then match those needs with potential solution providers,” said Tony Smith, Alliance Chairman. “The Alliance is designed to bring companies together to evaluate problems, which usually have multiple dimensions and require a large cross section of expertise. We are helping to fill in the gaps between problems and solutions. We are not here to function as a sales lead or business generator. We are here to assist agencies responsible for public safety and regional security in meeting related security needs thereby assisting to help protect the citizens of North Texas.”

DFW Homeland Security Alliance begins with 32 Member Companies and 10 Affiliates, including the University of Texas at Dallas. To apply be a Member Company, businesses must submit a company profile, outline its role in the Homeland Security arena, and provide executive bios. Once admitted into the Alliance, a Member Company must actively participate in Working Groups, which are Alliance subgroups actively participating in community outreach to identify needs and potential funding sources for new product solutions.

“If you’re not active in a Working Group, you’re not a member of the Alliance,” said Smith. “Everyone of us is working pro bono on ways to improve Homeland Security.”
